Happy New Year everyone! Let’s hope 2012 turns out to be a good one for us all 🙂

I took part in my first Janathon in 2011 and enjoyed it so much (!) I couldn’t resist taking part in Juneathon as well. For me it was all about running every day and seeing first if I could in fact run every day and, if so, how far I could push myself doing it. It was also a first for me to set up and write a blog. All things I succeeded in and thoroughly enjoyed doing so whilst also meeting some very nice fellow ‘athoners along the way!

This year my goals will be slightly different, or at least start off that way, due to a problematic right shoulder preventing me from running, currently. As I said before the ‘ athons have always been a lot about the running every day for me but due to injury I haven’t been able to run at all since September and all other forms of exercise have pretty much come to a holt for me too over the last month or so so I am feeling my general fitness levels have hit an all time low, a bit fat 0 in fact! I am down to run in the Cambridge Half Marathon on 11th March which is exactly 10 weeks away…eek! I will be doing the ‘some form of exercise every day’ part of Janathon rather than the running every day and following all the other usual rules and if I am able to take up running before the end of January I will but if not then so be it. So, my personal goals for Janathon 2012 are: 1) to get fit and healthy and back into a routine of regular exercise in preparation for doing the Cambridge Half in March (fingers crossed) and, 2) as a Bruce-ie bonus hopefully shed one or two pounds in the process!  To achieve this I aim to do the following:

  • As a minimum walk at least 2 miles every day of January and log and blog it.
  • Eat 3 meals per day with no snacks between meals.
  • Not allow myself any chocolate, biscuits, cakes, crisps or any other generally yummy foods (occasional dessert allowed, say on a Sunday).
  • Alcohol and caffeine still OK but in moderation.
  • Get back into the habit of drinking 5-6 pints of water per day.

We’ll see how long it all lasts, got to start off with good intentions! 🙂

Today I took my little nephew Caolan out for a walk in his pram and clocked up 2.09 miles in just over 37 minutes! I have been helping my Mum and Dad with babysitting duties over the last couple of days while my sister and her husband are away for 2 nights over New Year – today is day 2 and have to say we’re all pretty wiped! Bless his cotton socks as he’s getting over a stinking cold and we think teething at the moment too so it’s not an easy time for him but he’s trying his best and being 8.5 months old he’s into everything!
