Today’s Janathon effort consisted of a 10K run with a guy called Stephen that I met in mid-December at a training session put on for those doing the Cambridge half. We started chatted at the training session and it turned out we don’t live too far from each other and talked about the possibility going for a run together sometime. He may have just be making conversation at the time and not really had any intention of running with me but I held him to it and swapped numbers with him at the end of the night! As I’ve said previously December was a pretty rubbish month for me running-wise so Ididn’t get in touch until last week but it turns out he’d been ill too. So, tonight was out first run together. We were due to meet at 7pm but as per usual I got stuck at work so asked if we could make it 7:15 instead. He came by mine to pick me up and we ran on from there doing a 10K loop which passes both our houses. He is quite a bit faster than me, which I already knew as he did his last half in 1hr 45 and would like to do the Cambridge half in under 1hr 45! I wasn’t too far off this in my last half and would like to aim for under 1hr 50 in the Cambridge half so I should definitely benefit from running with him (if I can keep up! 😉 ). As we met he said he wasn’t the best at keeping pace and I could set the pace…think I was perhaps a bit slow for him but hey it’s Friday and I’ve been running the last 10 days and my legs are tired! We had avery good run though, weather was perfect and the company was great – no awkward silences as you might expect bearing in mind I didn’t really know him from Adam and had only spoken to him for about all of 5 minutes previously, but no just great conversation. We have agreed to try and aim to run together at least once a week and see how it goes…maybe not a Friday night next time and then I might be a bit faster! 😉 I had planned to go for a swim at the gym after but instead opted for the more sensible option of a long hot soak in the bath which I hope my legs will thank me for and not ache tomorrow!
